OCT scans at Donvale
Our Topcon 3D OCT-1 Maestro allows us to look in minuscule detail at the retina. This remarkable machine creates a high definition cross sectional scan of the layers of the retina, allowing early detection of Macular degenerative changes even before it is evident by viewing the retina by normal means. This allows for critical early treatment resulting in much better outcomes for patients with Macular problems. The Topcon 3D OCT also takes high definition retinal surface and blood vessel images, vital for the care of Diabetic patients and for detecting systemic vascular diseases.
The OCT is also useful for early detection of Glaucoma and numerous eye diseases in addition to the common ones mentioned above.
Not everyone requires this scan however if you have other symptoms the Optometrist may perform this scan on one or both of your eyes. This technology is used in many Ophthalmic clinics in Australia, and is relatively new to Optometry. At this stage the OCT scan is not covered by Medicare and does not have an item number, although some Private Health insurance funds may reimburse you for part of the cost of this scan. There is a charge and this will be discussed at your appointment if it is required.
